Living with kidney disease can be unpredictable and exhausting. Symptoms like chronic fatigue, fluid retention, dizziness, and fluctuating blood pressure often interfere with everyday activities. Sudden health issues—such as electrolyte imbalances or blood pressure spikes—can happen without warning, especially for those undergoing dialysis or managing advanced stages of the disease.

More than 35 million Americans—about 1 in 7 adults—are living with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and many remain undiagnosed until complications arise. Among those with kidney failure, over 550,000 people rely on dialysis, a process that can increase fall risk, dehydration, and disorientation in the hours following treatment.

That’s why having fast, reliable access to emergency help is so important.

LifeStation’s kidney disease medical alert systems offer a simple, powerful solution for these daily health risks. With just one press of a button, individuals can instantly connect to 24/7 emergency support—whether at home or on the go. Optional features like fall detection and GPS tracking ensure help is available even if a person becomes unresponsive or disoriented, providing vital peace of mind for patients and caregivers alike.

With LifeStation, individuals managing kidney disease can feel safer, more independent, and more supported—every step of the way.

Fall Detection
Protection when you can't press the button

Fatigue, dizziness, and muscle weakness caused by kidney disease can make falls more likely—and in some cases, pressing a help button may not be possible. That’s why our state-of-the-art medical alert with fall detection is designed to automatically alert emergency operators and summon assistance, even if you can’t press the button yourself.

Our advanced system uses three state-of-the-art technologies to detect falls accurately and trigger an emergency response:

  • Accelerometers measure sudden changes in movement, identifying when a fall has occurred.
  • Barometric sensors detect subtle shifts in air pressure, distinguishing between standing and lying down.
  • Smart algorithms differentiate real falls from accidental movements, reducing false alarms.

With automatic fall detection, individuals with kidney disease and their loved ones can have peace of mind knowing that help is always available, even in moments of weakness or exhaustion.

With Find My Loved One, caregivers and family members can quickly check in and locate their loved ones with a simple text message, providing an extra layer of security and peace of mind.

If your loved one is out for a walk, at a medical appointment, or running errands but hasn’t checked in, you can instantly view their location as long as they are wearing their mobile medical alert button.

With GPS-powered location tracking, family members can feel reassured knowing their loved one is safe—ensuring greater independence while maintaining a strong connection to care and support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear my medical alert device during dialysis?

Yes. The Sidekick is small and lightweight at 1.4 ounces and can be worn on a lanyard, belt clip, or wristband, so it stays with you through a treatment session. Because dialysis centers have their own emergency procedures and equipment policies, check with your care team about where to wear it during treatment. The device matters most on the trip home and in the hours afterward.

I feel dizzy and unsteady after dialysis. Will fall detection help?

Fall detection is an optional add-on, available for an additional fee. When it is active, the device uses accelerometers and barometric sensors to recognize a real fall and contact our monitoring center automatically, even if you cannot press the button yourself. It does not detect every fall, so press your button whenever you are able.

How long does the battery last?

The Sidekick mobile device runs 3 to 5 days on a charge, and we alert you when it runs low. The in-home system stays powered through an outage on a backup battery that lasts 24 to 32 hours, which matters if a storm knocks out power on a treatment day.

Can I wear it in the shower?

Yes. The Sidekick is water-resistant and safe to wear in the shower, where a large share of falls happen. Do not submerge it, so take it off before a bath or swimming.

Does it work away from home, at the clinic or on the way there?

Yes. The Sidekick runs on AT&T’s 4G LTE network and works anywhere in the United States with coverage. It uses GPS together with WiFi positioning to locate you accurately, including inside buildings such as a dialysis center or a medical office, so our specialists can direct help to the right place.

Can my family be notified when I press the button?

Yes. You give us a list of caregiver contacts when you set up your account, and our specialists reach out to them as part of responding to an alert. Family can also use the Find My Loved One feature to check your location by text message while you are wearing your device.

What happens if I press the button and cannot speak?

Our specialists treat every alert as real. If we get no response, we use your device’s location, the medical information on file for your account, and your
caregiver contacts to assess the situation and send help. Our monitoring centers in New Jersey and Texas are staffed by certified specialists 24 hours a day, and our operators stay on the line with you until help arrives.

Can I pay for a medical alert system with an HSA or FSA?

Many customers do. Eligibility depends on your specific plan, and some plans ask for a letter of medical necessity from your doctor. Our HSA and FSA pages walk through what each account type generally allows, and our team can send you an itemized receipt for your plan administrator.
